Dock-High vs. Drive-In Doors: What Your Operation Needs

Chandler Reed | 2026-10-16

Dock-high doors sit at truck-bed height so box trailers unload straight onto the warehouse floor. Drive-in doors sit at grade, or at the top of a ramp, so vehicles and forklifts can drive in.

Flatbed deliveries, equipment, and side-loaded materials usually need a drive-in door. Before you sign, confirm the door width and height against your largest vehicle, check whether the ramp and truck court let a 53-foot trailer maneuver, and verify the clear opening after the door hardware is installed.

Loading problems are expensive to fix after move-in.
